For Immigration Attorneys ·
What you'll accomplish
A draft packet is a form, a declaration and an evidence index that were written at different times, often by different people. Dates, employers and addresses drift apart between them. Uploading the files to Claude gives you a second reader that lines up every value that appears in more than one document and flags where the values differ. Claude does not decide which value is right. Each flag becomes a question for the client and a trip to the source document.
What you'll need
Data caution. A real draft packet holds the most identifying material in your file: client names, A-numbers, receipt numbers, passport numbers, dates of birth, addresses, immigration and criminal history, employer data and the client's own account. All of it stays in your firm's approved systems. This guide works on an invented packet for "Client A", matter "IM-26-031". Asylum, trafficking, abuse and criminal history details never go into a consumer AI tool. Upload a real packet only if your firm approved this tool for client data under your confidentiality duties and your state bar's rules on AI use, which you check yourself. Then open Claude's privacy settings and look at whether chats and uploads are used for training and how long they are kept.
The packet below is invented. Create three plain text files with the exact contents shown. Name them form-draft.txt, declaration-draft.txt and evidence-index.txt.
form-draft.txt (invented)

Address: [Address 2], February 2023 to present
Date of marriage: 2021-05-15

Item 7: Lease for [Address 2], starting 2023-03-01

Item 11: Letter from Employer 2, giving a start of September 2022
What you should see: Three small text files in one folder. Troubleshooting: If you prefer PDF or DOCX, that works too. Anthropic's file upload page lists PDF, DOCX and TXT among the supported types. For PDFs, refer to pages by the number your PDF viewer shows.
What you should see: Three file names attached above the message box. Troubleshooting: Anthropic lists a per-chat limit on file count and size. Three small text files sit far inside it. If a real packet is large, split it into sections.
Paste the prompt in the next section and send it.
Open each source file next to the table. Confirm every cell. Then write the questions for the client yourself.
Use each in a chat with the packet files attached.
